PERSEIDS METEOR SHOWER

AT MENDOCINO MAGIC

Makenzie and her staff were so lovely and accommodating and put on a beautiful event for the meteor shower complete with a tea station, resident astronomy photographer, and soup service, made from scratch by an awesome chef! The land and reservoir are just incomparable.

Every year in mid-August, Mendocino Magic hosts a weekend campout to view the annual Perseids Meteor Shower. Mich, our resident Astrophotographer, shares his telescopes and his stories, as guests sit at the highest peak on the property and gaze at the stars.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year when the night skies reveal some of the most spectacular stargazing on the planet!

August 2024 Mendocino Magic is hosting our 8th annual Perseids Meteor Shower campout and you’re in for an exciting and uniquely magical experience complete with tea, telescopes, soup, and stories. Here is a link to our weather for the weekend, as well as a reference to our AQI and visibility of the night sky. Please note wildfires affecting our skies may be recognized the week of or days before the event and we will do our best to notify guests of any climate related impacts to visibility in the night sky.

Arrival: Navigate to 3000 Branscomb Road, Laytonville, and look for the sign for Mendocino Magic. Sign our digital waiver here before arriving. Upon arrival, pull up to the white pop-up tent to be greeted. After checking in, you’ll be instructed to park your car in the parking lot, unless you have purchased a Car Camping add-on (available for purchase online or at the gate). Please arrive within gate hours- and be sure to let us know if you think you will be late so we can plan to accommodate you. Are you camping with a group? Let us know ahead of your arrival and we will help you find the perfect place to set up.  Be sure to peruse our Plan your Stay and Policies pages for more information on what to expect. Note that while we love dogs here, we ask that you please consider leaving your pet at home for this event. Any dogs which attend any events at Mendocino Magic must remain on leash at all times.

Offerings at the knoll: There will be a late night soup station with vegan and gluten free options, and a self service tea and coffee station (remember your bowl, spoon, and mug to minimize waste). Please bring your own food for all other meals and snacks, and a picnic -style dinner for Saturday evening (easiest for up on the hill- don’t forget your own trash bags!).

Covid 19 and Mendocino Magic: While we do not require proof of vaccination, we do ask guests to please stay home and not join us at the campout if you are not feeling well (even if you have tested negative). If you have been exposed recently to someone with Covid 19, please provide a negative Covid test.
